Democratic Legislator Joins Republican Party in NC: Republicans Have a Veto-Proof Majority

Tricia Cotham. made the switch from Democrat to Republican,

The Republicans now have a veto-proof majority and can override any veto from their Democratic governor. Like Ronald Reagan, Tricia Cotham. did not leave the Democratic party,m it left her. Let’s face it, folks, the Democratic party has become radical and extreme and Dominion and Rhinos are keeping the party from imploding, Already there have been several Democrats who have either declared they are now Republicans or Independents. But, you don’t see Republicans defecting to the Democrats.

This story is even more notable because she is a member of a prominent Democrat family. It’s probably going to be a little awkward around the Easter dinner table. But, she should do like I do when I am faced with liberals at the dinner table. I turn my brain off so that I can relate to them at their level. It seems to work, although there have been a couple of times that I ou5twitted them even though my brain was disengaged.

Her district is a solid blue one so she may find herself in an odd position come re-election time. No matter how well she works for the people in her district reelection will probably not happen. But, until then, Gov, Cooper is helpless to stop the Republicans from passing anything they like and can override all of his vetoes. She was criticized for using the American flag and praying hands emoji on social media and on her vehicles. They crucified her for that.

The “modern-day Democratic Party has become unrecognizable to me and others across the state,” said Cotham. “I will not be controlled by anyone.”

Democrats have been “blasting me on Twitter to calling me names, coming after my family, coming after my children,” continued Cotham. “That is wrong.” She added that a woman cursed her out at a store while she was shopping with her son.

North Carolina Republicans are welcoming her with open arms, as you’d imagine.

“This announcement continues to reflect that the Democratic Party is too radical for North Carolina,” state GOP chair Michael Whatley said in a statement. “The values of the Republican Party align with voters, and the people of Mecklenburg County should be proud to have her representation in Raleigh.”

U.S. Sen. Thom Tillis, who formerly served as the state’s House speaker, said he and Cotham joined the chamber together in 2007 and called her “a no-nonsense legislator who works hard to make a positive difference for all North Carolinians.”

Republicans have held majorities in the state’s House and Senate for years but Governor Cooper has used his power of veto to implement his agenda. That comes to a screeching halt now.

Cotham’s decision to join the GOP gives Republicans a clear path with a veto-proof majority to push a wide range of legislation, from reforming education to restricting abortion, without necessarily needing to compromise with Cooper.

Cotham alleged during Wednesday’s press conference that Cooper “tells you what to do” and that the Democratic Party will “bully” those who don’t do what the party wants.

Cotham let it rip against Democrats at her press conference Wednesday. She’s not interested in workshops, but in doing the real work of elected officials.

“The party wants to villainize anyone who has free thought, free judgement, has solutions and wants to get to work to better our state. Not just sit in a meeting and have a workshop after a workshop, but really work with individuals to get things done. Because that is what real public servants do. If you don’t do exactly what the Democrats want you to do they will try to bully you. They will try to cast you aside,” she said.

What about all the other politicians still in the Democrat Party? Do they really believe all the Democrat filth, are they just slow learners, or are they waiting for a more opportune moment to bolt the Party? It’s hard to have respect for one’s fellow Americans who actually vote for them. No, not hard: impossible.
