Tucker Carlson released a statement on Wednesday, indicating he plans to continue his journalistic work. What he will actually be able to do is in question and it is up to him to continue the work he was doing at Fox. His contract has a no-compete clause, but if he does not accept severance pay, that may not apply. That also means he could not accept Fox buying out his contract, otherwise, his career would be on hold.
Carlson said:
“One of the first things you realize when you step outside the noise for a few days is how many genuinely nice people there are in this country, kind and decent people, people who really care about what’s true and a bunch of hilarious people — also, a lot of those. The other thing you notice when you take a little time off is how unbelievably stupid most of the debates you see on television are, they’re completely irrelevant. They mean nothing. In five years, we won’t even remember that we had them, trust me as someone who’s participated.”
“And yet at the same time, and this is the amazing thing, the undeniably big topics, the ones that will define our future, get virtually no discussion at all: war, civil liberties, emerging science, demographic change, corporate power, natural resources. When was the last time you heard a legitimate debate about any of those issues? It’s been a long time. Debates like that are not permitted in American media. Both political parties and their donors have reached consensus on what benefits them, and they actively collude to shut down any conversation about it.”
“Our current orthodoxies won’t last, they’re brain dead, nobody actually believes them. Hardly anyone’s life is improved by them. This moment is too inherently ridiculous to continue. And so it won’t. The people in charge know this. That’s why they’re hysterical and aggressive. They’re afraid. They’ve given up persuasion, they’re resorting to force, but it won’t work.”
“When honest people say what’s true, calmly and without embarrassment, they become powerful. At the same time, the liars who’ve been trying to silence them shrink and they become weaker. That’s the iron law of the universe. True things prevail. Where can you still find Americans saying true things? There aren’t many places left, but there are some and that’s enough. Fox is already paying a price for firing Carlson. They lost one billion dollars in value in the first 24 hours after his firing. Carlson was averaging 3.2 million viewers per program and the first day he was gone Fox had just 1.7 million viewers. Advertising rates are based on the number of viewers, so you do the math. Some advertisers may actually cancel their ads for the eight o’clock hour altogether.

Tucker rec’d inheritance of about $200 million from her. His salary with FOX has been $45 million plus now he will receive $25 million for a few years as compensation for the departure. He’s only in his 50’s and too young to retire. Don’t believe it’s about $$$ for him. And he has too much talent to retire.

I totally agree with Mr. Carlson. In a few years, most of these “debates” will be the stuff of dim memory – with the exception of the many paid gotcha’ sleuths, that comb the internet looking for any dated material that they can use as some kind of political attack or smear. Most of the political arguments these days appear to me to be along the same vein as the squabbling seen in the book, ‘Gulliver’s Travels’ – where the ‘big endians’ were in constant war-fare with the ‘little endians’ – to the point you could be put to death for advocating your egg preference in the wrong company.

Fox is going to lose a lot more. The 8pm time slot charges a lot to advertisers but with the ratings for that time going in the toilet advertisers are going to be pulling the ads or will require a discount on the ads.

I really like the idea of O’reily and Tucker joining together and starting a network of conservative commentators! Maybe they could get Hannity and Ingram to come on board as well!
