In an op-ed published in The Washington Post, Joe Biden announced his intention to propose a series of significant reforms to the Supreme Court, including advocating for term limits, implementing a code of conduct, and imposing restrictions on presidential immunity. He expressed his plan to urge Congress to address these issues.
Biden is set to elaborate on these proposed initiatives in a speech at the LBJ Presidential Library on Monday, coinciding with the 60th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act, as stated by an official.
The president has also outlined his reform goals in an editorial released on Monday morning.

In a recent op-ed published in the Washington Post, Biden emphasized his deep familiarity with the Supreme Court, citing his involvement in numerous nominations during his tenure as a U.S. senator and vice president.
He expressed concern that the current situation is abnormal and erodes public trust in the court’s rulings, particularly those affecting personal liberties. “We are now at a critical juncture,” he stressed.

Biden’s proposed reforms would remove the immunity previously granted to former presidents for any crimes they may have committed while in office.
Biden is pushing for Supreme Court justices to have an 18-year tenure, allowing for a once-every-two-years appointment of new justices.
Additionally, he is advocating for a new code of conduct for the court, requiring justices to disclose gifts, refrain from public political activity, and withdraw from cases involving conflicts of interest.
A White House official stated that President Biden and Vice President Harris are eager to work with Congress to strengthen democracy’s safeguards by restoring faith in the Supreme Court, preventing abuse of presidential power, and empowering the American people.
This op-ed represents President Biden’s most significant policy move since announcing his withdrawal from the 2024 presidential race earlier this month.
